Powertrain Control Module Verification Test
- Inspect the vehicle to ensure that all engine components are properly installed and connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary.
- Inspect the engine oil for contamination. If oil contamination is suspected, change the oil and filter.
- If the PCM was not replaced, go to step 8 . If PCM was replaced, go to next step.
- If PCM has been replaced and correct VIN and mileage have not been programmed, a DTC will be set in CAB and ACM. If vehicle is equipped with SKIM, secret key data must be updated to enable engine to start.
- Obtain vehicle's unique PIN assigned to original SKIM from vehicle owner or manufacturer.
- For ABS and Air Bag system, enter correct VIN and Mileage in PCM. Erase DTCs in ACM and CAB.
- For SKIM, connect DRBIII(R) to data link connector. Select THEFT ALARM, SKIM, MISCELLANEOUS, then place SKIM in secured access mode by using the appropriate PIN code for this vehicle. Select Update the Secret Key data. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM
- Attempt to start the engine. Is the vehicle still unable to start or are there any DTCs or symptoms remaining? If yes, check for any related Technical Service Bulletins and/or see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS or SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION . If no, repair is complete.
CAUTION:
If 3 attempts are made to enter secured access mode using an incorrect PIN, secured access mode will be locked out for one hour which causes the DRBIII(R) to display BUS +\- SIGNALS OPEN. To exit this mode, turn ignition to the RUN position for one hour.
