Transmission Verification Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Reconnect any disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase DTCs.
  2. Using the DRBIII(R), select TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE. Start and run engine until transmission temperature reaches at least 110°F (43°C). Check transmission fluid and adjust if necessary. For fluid fill procedure, see appropriate SERVICING article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  3. NOTE: If the TCM has been replaced or if the transmission has been repaired or replaced, it is necessary to perform the TCM Quick Learn Procedure. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING.
  4. Road test the vehicle. Using the DRBIII(R), monitor TPS. From a standing start, accelerate up to 60 MPH with a constant throttle opening of 20-25 degrees and make approximately 15-20 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts (and 4-4 prime for 545RFE only).
  5. Make 5-8 wide-open-throttle kickdowns to 1st gear with vehicle speed less than 25 MPH. Allow at least 5 seconds each in 2nd and 3rd gear between each kickdown.
  6. Using the DRBIII(R), check for DTCs during road test. Use EATX OBD-II TASK MANAGER to run GOOD TRIP TIME in each gear. This will confirm the repair and ensure the DTC has not re-matured. Were any DTCs set during the road test? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, repair is complete.
