Transmission Verification Test VER-1 (45RFE/545REF)

NOTE: After completing this Transmission Verification Test, perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 (NGC)  . If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has been replaced or the transmission has been repaired, perform the DRB-III(R) Quick Learn procedure. If PCM is replaced, the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into PCM to prevent DTCs from being stored in Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. If replacing PCM and vehicle is equipped with a Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must also be updated to enable engine starting. See UPDATING SECRET KEY DATA  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
  1. Turn the ignition off. Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. With the DRB-III(R), erase all Powertrain and Transmission DTCs from the PCM. With the DRB-III(R), display TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE. Start and run the engine until the Transmission temperature is HOT, more than 110°F (43°C). Check the Transmission fluid and adjust if necessary.
  2. Road test the vehicle. Perform the following shifts from a standing start with a constant throttle opening of 20-25 degrees at speeds up 60 MPH; make fifteen to twenty 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts, and 4-OD (4 Prime) for 545RFE.
  3. Perform the following shifts with speeds less than 25 MPH; make 5-8 wide open throttle kickdowns to 1st gear. Allow at least 5 seconds each in 2nd and 3rd gear between each kickdown.
  4. NOTE: Use the EATX OBD-II task manager to run GOOD TRIP time in each gear, this will confirm the repair and ensure that the DTC has not re-matured.
  5. Check for DTCs during the road test. Were there any DTCs set during the road test? If yes, check for any related Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) and/or perform appropriate test. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DURANGO - NGC article. If no, repair is complete.
