Powertrain Verification Test VER-2
NOTE:
For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS . For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Inspect the vehicle to ensure that all engine components are properly installed and connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary.
- If this verification procedure is being performed after a DTC repair, go to step 5. If this verification procedure is not being performed after a DTC repair, perform steps 3 and 4 .
- Check to see if the initial symptom still exists. If the symptom no longer exists, the repair was successful and testing is complete.
- If the initial or another symptom exists, the repair is not complete. Check for any related Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and return to appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article if necessary.
- If this verification procedure is being performed after a DTC repair, perform steps 6- 15 .
- Connect the DRBIII® scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC). With the DRBIII® scan tool, erase DTCs and reset all values.
- If the PCM was not replaced, go to step 11. If PCM was replaced, go to next step.
- If the PCM was replaced, the correct Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and mileage must be programmed or a DTC will set in the Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) and Air Bag Control Modules (ACM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. In addition, if the vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable start. See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
- For ABS and air bag systems, enter correct VIN and mileage in PCM. Erase DTCs in CAB and ACM.
- For SKIM theft alarm, connect DRBIII® scan tool to DLC. Go to Theft Alarm, SKIM, Misc and place SKIM in Secured Access Mode by using the appropriate Personal Identification Number (PIN) code for this vehicle. This number may be obtained from the vehicle's owner or manufacturer. Select Update The Secret Key Data. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM.
- If equipped with a Transfer Case Position (TCP) switch, perform step 12. If not equipped with TCP switch, go to step 13.
- With the ignition switch on, place the transfer case shift lever in each gear position, stopping for 15 seconds in each position.
- Road test the vehicle. If the test is for an A/C DTC, ensure A/C is operating during the next step.
- Drive the vehicle for at least 5 minutes at 40 MPH. Ensure the transmission shifts properly through all gears. At some point, stop the vehicle and turn off the engine for at least 10 seconds.
- With the DRBIII® scan tool, read DTCs. Are any DTCs or symptoms remaining? If yes, check for any related Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and/or perform appropriate DTC test and finish diagnosing remaining DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, repair is complete.
