Disabling System (Expedition & Navigator)

  1. Record preset radio frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Move and tilt front seats to their highest and rearmost position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
  2. Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulator to clockspring connector at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See Figure. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  3. Push in on glove box tabs, release glove box and fully open glove compartment. Disconnect passenger air bag module electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  4. NOTE: If vehicle is not equipped with safety canopies, do not deactivate the safety canopy module circuit by removing the safety canopy bridge resistor from the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector. If the safety canopy bridge resistor is removed, an open circuit fault will be generated by the Restraints Control Module (RCM). If a restraint system diagnostic tool is installed at the safety canopy electrical connector, a low resistance fault will be generated by the RCM.
  5. The safety canopy bridge resistor is located on the right side of the vehicle, above the headliner. DO NOT disconnect the safety canopy bridge resistor.
  6. Remove passenger side "B" pillar lower trim panel. Disconnect passenger side seat belt retractor pretensioner connector. Connect appropriate simulator to vehicle harness connector (in place of seat belt pretensioner). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side seat belt retractor pretensioner. Connect negative battery cable.
  7. If vehicle is equipped with safety canopies, separate passenger side "C" pillar trim panel. Disconnect passenger side safety canopy electrical connector, located on "C" pillar, behind the second row safety belt shoulder height adjuster. Connect appropriate simulator to vehicle harness connector (in place of passenger side safety canopy). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side safety canopy.
  8. From under the passenger front seat, disconnect the seat belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector. Connect appropriate simulator to vehicle harness connector (in place of passenger side seat belt buckle pretensioner). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side seat belt buckle pretensioner electrical connector. Connect negative battery cable.
