Disabling System (Explorer Sport Trac)
- Record preset radio frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Move and tilt seats to their highest and most forward position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
- Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulator to clockspring connector at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
- Remove passenger air bag module. See PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulator to passenger's air bag vehicle harness connector (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
- For vehicles not equipped with safety canopies, DO NOT disconnect safety canopy bridge resistor. If vehicle is equipped with safety canopies, go to next step.
- If vehicle is equipped with safety canopies, remove passenger side "C" pillar trim panels. Disconnect passenger side safety canopy electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to safety canopy vehicle harness connector. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side safety canopy electrical connector.
- Remove passenger side "B" pillar trim panel. Disconnect passenger side seat belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to safety canopy vehicle harness connector. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for driver side seat belt retractor pretensioner electrical connector. Connect negative battery cable.
NOTE:
DO NOT deactivate safety canopy module circuit by removing the safety canopy bridge resistor from the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector. If safety canopy bridge resistor is removed, an open circuit fault will be generated by the Restraints Control Module (RCM). If a restraint system diagnostic tool is installed at the safety canopy electrical connector, a low resistance fault will be generated by the RCM.
