Vehicle Theft Security System: Notes

The Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) is part of the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM monitors the vehicle doors, decklid, hood, and the ignition for unauthorized operation. The alarm activates by sounding the horn, flashing the fog/park lamps and the VTSS indicator lamp. The VTSS also prevents engine operation by sending a PCI bus message to the PCM. The VTSS indicator lamp will flash for approximately 15 seconds during the arming process. If the lamp is on steady, this indicates that the decklid/hood is open or there is a fault in the door entry/locks, or ignition switch. If there is no interruption during the arming process, upon completion the VTSS indicator lamp will flash at a slower rate. When then BCM receives an input to trigger the alarm, the BCM will control the outputs of the fog lamps, horn, and VTSS lamp for approximately 3 minutes. If the input that triggers the alarm is still active, then a lights only (park & Fog lamps) will continue to flash for 15 minutes or until the input becomes inactive.
