Standard Starting System: Notes
The battery, starting, and charging systems operate in conjunction with one another, and must be tested as a complete system. For correct starting/charging system operation, all of the components involved in these three systems must perform within specifications.

| 3. Starter relay faulty. | 3. The starter relay is located within the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Refer to FUSE LOCATIONS AND TYPES, SPECIFICATIONS . | |
| 4. WIN faulty. | 4. Replace the WIN module if required. Refer to RECEIVER, WIRELESS IGNITION NODE, REMOVAL . | |
| 6. Park/Neutral position switch faulty or misadjusted. | 6. Refer to appropriate Transmission information to REPLACE the park/neutral position switch if required. | |
| 7. Clutch Interlock Switch | Test the operation of the clutch interlock switch. Refer to (CHECKING THE CLUTCH INTERLOCK SWITCH OPERATION) Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING . | |
| 8. Starter solenoid faulty. | 8. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL . REPLACE the starter motor assembly if required. | |
| 9. Starter motor faulty. | 9. If all other starting system components and circuits test OK, to REPLACE the starter motor. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL . | |
| STARTER ENGAGES, FAILS TO TURN ENGINE | 1. Battery discharged or faulty. | 1. Refer to BATTERY, STANDARD PROCEDURE . If replacement of the battery is required, refer to BATTERY, REMOVAL . |

| STARTER ENGAGES, SPINS OUT BEFORE ENGINE STARTS | 1. Starter ring gear faulty. | 1. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL . Remove the starter motor to inspect the starter ring gear. REPLACE the starter ring gear if required. |
| 2. Starter motor faulty. | 2. If all other starting system components and circuits test OK, replace the starter motor assembly. Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL . | |
| STARTER DOES NOT DISENGAGE | 1. Starter motor improperly installed. | 1. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS . Tighten the starter mounting hardware to correct torque specifications. |
