Diagnostic Test

  1. VERIFY THE DTC IS ACTIVE 
    NOTE:

    This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.

    1. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply.
    2. Ignition on, engine not running.
    3. Using the scan tool, read and record DTCs.
    4. Using the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. A EPPM module reset needs to be done to retest for the active code. 
    6. Perform the EPPM module reset. Access the Diagnostic Procedures menu from the EPPM ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
    7. Using the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC active at this time?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2.

      No 

      • Inspect the front end of the vehicle covering fascia, grille, and looking under vehicle for possible damage. Pay extra attention to the pedestrian protection sensor areas for possible damage.
      • Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  and perform the EPPM SYSTEM INTERMITTENT CONDITION TEST.
  2. INSPECT THE PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION SATELLITE SENSOR ALIGNMENT, FOR INCORRECT INSTALLATION OR DAMAGE 
    NOTE:

    If available, check the vehicle repair history for collision damage. Such as a low speed impact with no system deployment and now there is damage.

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the front end of the vehicle covering fascia, grille, and looking under vehicle for possible damage. Pay extra attention to the pedestrian protection sensor areas for possible damage.
    3. Inspect the torque of the suspect sensor for a possible loose connection.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Repair as necessary. Test drive vehicle to recreate road vibration to confirm repair. Reset the EPPM. Perform the EPPM module reset. Access the Diagnostic Procedures menu from the EPPM ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation. Perform this operation if the DTC is stored, Repair as necessary and perform the EPPM SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to  STANDARD PROCEDURE   . If the DTC is still active, replace the EPPM. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION, REMOVAL .
      • Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  and perform the EPPM VERIFICATION TEST.
