Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR RELATED DTCS
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Driver (MSMD) DTCs.
Does the scan tool display any seat position sensor DTCs?
Yes
- Repair the MSMD DTC(s). Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Driver (MSMD) DTCs.
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Memory Seat Module-Driver (MSMD) DTCs and record on the work order.
- With the scan tool, erase MSMD DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Move the Seat Switch in the rear vertical position multiple times.
- With the scan tool, read MSMD DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Go To 20
- CHECK THE (G402) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL POSITION SENSE CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE (G492) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE (P111) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE (P113) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE (P111) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER CIRCUIT
- Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit.
- While observing the test light, move the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Switch in the down position.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Go To 15
- CHECK THE (P113) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER
- Connect a 12-volt test light between the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit and the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit.
- While observing the test light, move the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Switch in the down position.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 10
No
- Go To 19
- CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER
- While observing the test light, move the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Switch in the up position.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Power Seat Track in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to DESCRIPTION .
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 19
- While observing the test light, move the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Switch in the up position.
- CHECK THE (G402) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL POSITION SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (G402) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Position Sense circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (G402) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Position Sense circuit for an open or excessive resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (G492) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (G492) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Sensor Ground circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (G492) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Sensor Ground circuit for an open or excessive resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (P111) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit.
Is the voltage below 1.0 volt?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (P113) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit.
Is the voltage below 1.0 volt?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (P111) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit at the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 16
- CHECK THE (P111) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL DOWN DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit for an open or excessive resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 19
- Measure the resistance of the (P111) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Down Driver circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- CHECK THE (P113) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit at the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 18
- CHECK THE (P113) DRIVER SEAT REAR VERTICAL UP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit for an open or excessive resistance.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 19
- Measure the resistance of the (P113) Driver Seat Rear Vertical Up Driver circuit between the Driver Seat Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor harness connector and the MSMD C5 harness connector.
- MEMORY SEAT MODULE (MSMD)
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the motor and the MSMD.
- Check for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals and correct pin tension.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace and program the MSMD in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, MEMORY, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit. Wiggle the wiring and connectors while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform POWER SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Test complete.
