Electronic Shift Module (ESM) Verification Test

Perform the following procedure to verify proper Electronic Shift Module (ESM) operation after repairs have been performed.

1. Reinstall any removed components.
2. Reconnect any disconnected electrical connectors.
3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
4. With the scan tool, display the Transmission Temperature.
5. Start the engine and allow the Transmission fluid temperature to reach 43°C (110°F).
6. With the brakes applied, slowly change the Shifter position to each of the available positions.
7. The Shift indicators should indicate the correct position for each of the available positions.
8. The Shifter backlighting should be the same brightness as the rest of the Instrument Panel (IP) backlighting.
9. With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs and record on the repair order.

   Did any ESM DTCs set?

   Yes 

   • Repair ESM DTCs. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX  .

   No 

   • Test complete.
