Module, Blind Spot (BSM): Description

Vehicles equipped with the optional Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) system have two primary components. These components are the two Radio Detection And Ranging (RADAR) blind spot sensors (1) (also known as the Left or Right Blind Spot Sensors/LBSS or RBSS). In this vehicle, each sensor also includes an internal microcontroller and control circuitry that monitors and controls both the sensor and the blind spot display for the same side of the vehicle. This explains why the sensors are sometimes referred to as smart sensors.

Each sensor with control circuitry is contained and protected within a molded plastic case that includes an integral connector receptacle (2) at one end. The sensors are each connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the body wire harness. The two sensors are concealed behind the outboard ends of the rear bumper fascia. Each sensor is snapped into a dedicated molded plastic mounting bracket that is integral to the rear fascia mounting brackets just behind the left or right rear wheel openings.

The blind spot sensors and control circuitry cannot be adjusted or repaired. If a sensor is damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced with a new unit. The sensor module software is flash capable. The mounting bracket for each sensor is serviced only as a unit with the rear bumper fascia mounting bracket.
