Steering System: Gear: Installation
CAUTION:
The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in SCCM damage.
- Position the steering gear (3) between the RH upper and lower parts of the cradle (crossmember) as far as necessary to lower the LH side of the steering gear (3) into position and shift to the left.
- Install the two steering gear bolts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the one steering gear bolt (4) and tighten it to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Insert both outer tie rod end studs into the steering knuckles.
- Install the two outer tie rod end nuts (5) and tighten them to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the engine cradle. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, CRADLE, ENGINE AND SUSPENSION, INSTALLATION .
- Perform a front wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
