Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors or vehicle connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the test lead 10159-6 or the use of Breakout Box 8443-55 to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- CHECK UNUSED DRIVER FRONTAL SQUIB 1 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE, SHORT TO GROUND, OR SHORT TOGETHER
- Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 1 circuits for possible short to voltage.
- Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 1 circuits for possible short to ground.
- Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 1 circuits for possible short together.
Are any of the unused Driver Frontal Squib circuits shorted?
Yes
WARNING:Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Repair any unused Driver Frontal Squib 1 circuits that are shorted.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .

NOTE:Ensure the part number of the replacement module is the correct part number for the vehicle.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT (ORC), REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
