Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK THE SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR (STPS) SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    WARNING:

Turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the STPS harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the ORC Module harness connectors.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
      NOTE:

Probing of the circuit cavities at the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) body harness connectors and in-line connectors using test kit 2022900080 for back probing the terminal will prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.

    4. Measure the voltage between ground and the STPS Signal circuits at the sensor harness connector.

Is there any voltage present on either circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE STPS SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Check for continuity between ground and both of the STPS Signal circuits at the STPS harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and either circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE STPS SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
    1. Check for continuity between the signal circuit and the return circuit at the STPS harness connector.

Is there continuity between the signal circuit and the return circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE STPS SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Measure the resistance of the STPS signal circuit and the return circuit from the STPS harness connector to the ORC harness connector.

Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohms on both circuits?

      Yes

      • Go To  6

      No

      • Repair the STPS signal circuit and/or the return circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. REPLACE THE STPS SENSOR
    1. Replace the STPS in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      WARNING:

If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      No

      • Test complete.
