Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
      • Probing of the circuit cavities at the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) body harness connectors and in-line connectors using test kit 2022900080 for back probing the terminal will prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
  2. CHECK THE RUN/START CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
    NOTE:

The diagnosis of this DTC involves testing the RUN/START voltage supplied to the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) from the PDC.

    Turn the ignition on.

    1. Measure the voltage on the RUN/START circuit at the output side of RUN/START fuse.
    2. Check RUN/START voltage at PDC output terminal.

Were any problems found with the RUN/START circuit related to the fuse or the PDC?

      Yes

      • Repair or replace the PDC or fuse in accordance with service information.

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE FUSED RUN/START RELAY OUTPUT [CIRCUIT VOLTAGE] AT THE ORC [HARNESS CONNECTOR]
    WARNING:

Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. Measure the voltage on the Fused Run/Start Relay Output circuit at the ORC harness connector with ignition on.

Is the voltage equal to battery voltage?

      Yes

      No

      • Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the related wiring and connectors. Look for shorted, chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair any problems found according to service information.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
