Automatic Transmission (Service Information): Installation
The fasteners used on the Left Transmission Mount Bracket are of a single usage type and CANNOT be reused. Once the fasteners are torqued they must be replaced upon any removal. The torque of the fasteners are a higher than torques for a similar sized fastener. Check the service information for proper torque.
DO NOT reuse these transmission mount bracket bolts, as it may lead to bracket bolt failure.
Be sure to check all mounting bracket torque specifications, some fasteners have a torque value higher than most bolts of that size.
- Check condition of the flexplate. Replace the plate if cracked, distorted or damaged. Also be sure transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.
- Apply a light coating of Mopar® High Temp Grease to the torque converter hub pocket in the rear pocket of the engine's crankshaft.
- Install transmission into position.
- On 3.6L engines install the engine-to-transmission two outer lower bolts and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the remaining lower engine-to-transmission bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install transmission to engine bolt near valve body oil pan and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the shifter cable and bracket (1) to the transmission and securely tighten the two bolts.NOTE:
The shifter cable bracket is mounted between the transmission and the left engine mount.
- Connect the cable to the transmission lever (3)CAUTION:
Do not reuse fasteners. Reusing fasteners and not installing new fasteners tightened to the proper torque specifications may lead to catastrophic failure.
- Install all NEW left side engine mount fasteners. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect solenoid/pressure switch assembly connector (2).
- Connect oil cooler lines (4) to transmission. An audible 'click' should be heard. Verify connection by pulling outward.
- Connect the turbine speed sensor (5).
- Install the two upper transmission-to-engine bolts (2) and two stud bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install harness ground wire to stud bolt and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position coolant bottle mounting bracket to core support and tighten bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the coolant bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the ground cable bolt and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the two output speed sensor harness connectors (1 and 2)
- Install the torque converter bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, INSTALLATION
.
