System, Shift Interlock: Operation

The Brake Transmission Shifter/Ignition Interlock (BTSI) is engaged whenever the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. An additional electrically activated feature will prevent shifting out of the PARK position unless the brake pedal is depressed at least one-half inch. When the key is in the ON position (engine running or not) and the brake pedal is depressed, the shifter is unlocked and will move into any position.

If equipped with swivel seats, the swivel seats must locked in the forward facing position to allow the transmission to be shifted out of PARK.

The BTSI system also requires the transmission to be in PARK before the ignition switch can be turned to the LOCK/OFF (key removal) position. The key can only be removed from the ignition when the ignition is in the LOCK/OFF position, and once removed the transmission is locked in PARK.
