Vehicles equipped with the optional Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) system are equipped with two Radio Detection And Ranging (RADAR) sensors, the Left and Right Blind Spot Sensors (LBSS) and (RBSS) (1). Each sensor also includes an internal micro-controller and circuitry that monitors and controls both the sensor and the blind spot display for the respected side of the vehicle.

Each sensor is contained and protected within a molded plastic case that includes an integral connector receptacle (2). The sensors are connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the body wire harness. The sensors are concealed behind the outboard ends of the rear bumper fascia and are mounted into dedicated molded plastic mounting brackets that are integral to the rear fascia.

The blind spot sensors cannot be adjusted or repaired. If a sensor is damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced with a new unit. The sensor module software is flash capable. The mounting bracket for each sensor is serviced only as a unit with the rear bumper fascia mounting bracket.
