Module, HVAC: Removal

WARNING:

Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the right side instrument panel silencer panel. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the glove box and the glove box trim panel from the instrument panel. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  4. Disconnect the wire harness connector (3) from the HVAC module (1) located on the air inlet housing (4).
    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to fully remove the two front HVAC module retaining screws. The front HVAC module retaining tabs are slotted to aid in module service.

  5. Loosen the fasteners (2) that secure the front of the HVAC module to the air inlet housing.
  6. Remove the fastener (5) that secures the rear of the HVAC module to the air inlet housing.
  7. Slide the HVAC module rearward to disengage the HVAC module from the front retaining fasteners and remove the HVAC module.
