The Intrusion Transceiver Module (ITM) (1) is part of the optional, premium version of the Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) in the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) used only in vehicles manufactured for certain export markets where intrusion protection is required equipment.

The ITM is located on the upper surface of the overhead console housing, which is concealed above the overhead console trim cover (2). When installed, the ITM is concealed above the headliner and between the two sun visors. Only the two rearward-facing intrusion module sensor membranes are visible within small round openings on the outboard rear corners of the overhead console trim cover within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

The molded black plastic ITM housing is secured within a mount by latch features integral to the overhead console housing. Two connector receptacles are integral to one side of the ITM housing. One connects the two intrusion module sensors to the ITM circuitry, while the other contains terminal pins that connect the ITM circuitry to the electrical system of the vehicle through a dedicated take out and connector of the overhead wire harness.

Concealed within the center of the ITM housing is the electronic circuitry of the module. The ITM housing is sealed to enclose and protect the internal components of the module including a microcontroller and electronic communication circuitry. The ITM communicates with other electronic modules in the vehicle over the Controller Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) data bus network.

The ITM cannot be adjusted or repaired. If ineffective or damaged, the entire ITM must be replaced. The intrusion module sensors are available for separate service replacement.
