Preliminary Diagnosis

As a preliminary diagnosis for the RKE system, first confirm that the power lock system operates satisfactorily. If the power lock system fails to operate correctly, repair that problem before attempting to diagnose the RKE system. If the problem being diagnosed involves only one or more Customer Programmable features, check using the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) or with a diagnostic scan tool to be certain that these programmable features are enabled. If the features are enabled and still fail to operate, the KIN and the CAN data bus must be tested. Next, note the RKE system operation while you perform both the Lock and Unlock functions with the FOBIK. Then, proceed as follows:

  1. If the power lock system functions with both power lock switches, but not with the FOBIK, proceed to diagnosis of the FOBIK.
  2. If the FOBIK checks okay, proceed to diagnosis of the KIN or the CAN data bus. The use of a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information are required.
