Installation - 8HP70: Installation

CAUTION:
The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.
- Install the fluid port (1) with NEW
O-rings (2) and seal (3) to the transmission case.
- Install the valve body assembly to the transmission using the previously installed (1) (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) as a guide.
- Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.
- Install the valve body assembly bolts by hand, excluding bolts 16-18.
- Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.
- Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1) carefully install the electrical harness insulator (2) to the transmission case (3).
- Lock the electrical connector lock (2) to the internal harness end.
- Install the rear valve body retaining bolts (3) and hand tighten.
- When installing the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) into the case, take care to position the OSS guide pin as shown or DAMAGE
to the sensor may result.NOTE:
This is the INCORRECT alignment of the pin.
- This is the CORRECT
installation and pin alignment.
- Install the OSS to the case and then install the OSS bolt (1) and hand tighten.
- Tighten the valve body bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to 7 N.m (62 in. lbs.).
- If equipped, install the Hydraulic Impulse Oil Storage (HIS) accumulator (1).
- Tighten the bolts (2 and 3) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the HIS wire harness connector.
- Remove the tie strap (3).
- Return the Manual Park Release (MPR) lever (1) to the original position, tighten the fastener (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Connect the MPR cable (1) to the lever (2).
- Install the oil pan and gasket.
- Install the transmission oil pan bolts and tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Connect the transmission wire harness connector (1).
- Turn the locking mechanism (1) of the transmission wire harness connector (2) clockwise to lock it in place.
- If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST, 8HP50/850RE or refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST, 8HP70 .
