Programming Keys To The BCM
Body Control Module (BCM) Key Programming Procedures:
PROGRAMMING A SINGLE KEY INTO THE BCM
- A flash updated or new BCM allows the dealership to add additional keys to the BCM without requiring all the previously programmed keys available at the dealership. This procedure will not disable any key previously stored on the BCM.
- The BCM may be programmed to recognize up to a total of eight key fobs. When replacing or adding a key fob, the replacement/additional key fob must be ordered through your parts department by VIN. The new key will arrive within 24 hours cut to match the door lock cylinder in the vehicle for which it will be used. Once the new key fob arrives, the BCM must be programmed to recognize it as a valid key fob.
- The entire key procedure will require the key to be in the OFF position and with the hazard lights turned on.
- If the wrong key code is entered three times in a row it will lock out the BCM for a period of 24 hours.
- Do NOT at any point during the procedure hit the CLOSE button, always hit CONTINUE until procedure says it is completed successfully and it is now safe to turn off hazards. Hitting the CLOSE button will cause the routine to end without learning the key.
- This routine must be used when a missing or stolen key needs to be disabled on the vehicle BCM
PROGRAMMING A VIRGIN AND UNCUT SINGLE KEY INTO THE BCM
- The BCM may be programmed to recognize up to a total of eight key fobs. A virgin and uncut key needs to be used. The key needs to be cut at the dealership to match the mechanical code of the door lock cylinder. Once the new key fob has been cut, the BCM must be programming to recognize it as a valid key fob.
PROCEDURE:
- Obtain security pin for the vehicle.
- Insert a key (already programmed if possible) into the ignition to start the process.
- Turn the ignition to the run position and connect to the vehicle using the scan tool.
- Select "BCM" from the topology view and then the "MISC" tab.
- The hazard lamps must be on during programming.
- Select "Disable and Enable Keys", then click "continue".
- Turn key to off position as instructed in procedure. Follow routine, remove the key from the ignition as instructed to program additional keys, wait 10 seconds between adding keys. Continue following tool prompts to complete.NOTE:
Do NOT at any point during the procedure hit the CLOSE button, always hit CONTINUE until procedure says it is completed successfully and it is now safe to turn off hazards. Hitting the CLOSE button will cause the routine to end without learning the key.
NOTE:
If at any point the customer needs a BCM replacement. The keys should be already programmed to the BCM. If the vehicle exhibits a start and stall situation after the BCM is replaced the keys may need to be reprogrammed using the program ignition keys procedure in the scan tool.
