Module, Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC): Installation
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the BCM Miscellaneous Functions menu.
- Be certain that the steering column remains in the lowest position setting.
- Position the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) close enough to the instrument panel to access and connect the instrument panel wire harness connector to the receptacle (1) on the back of the IPC housing.
- Position the IPC guide pins (1) into the instrument panel.
- Install and tighten the fasteners (1) that secure the IPC to the instrument panel.
- Install the IPC bezel onto the instrument panel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
- Align the PROXI configuration data into the new IPC following the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the BCM Miscellaneous Functions menu.
