CANADIAN Reprogramming/Gate Reprogramming
Canadian radio-frequency laws require transmitter signals to "time-out" (or quit) after several seconds of transmission which may not be long enough for the HomeLink® transceiver to pick up a successful signal during programming. Similar to this Canadian law, some U.S. gate operators are designed to "time-out" in a similar manner.
For Canadian vehicles, or if there are difficulties with successfully performing the above Step 3 procedure in "Reprogramming Common Universal Transmitter Codes" (regardless of the vehicle's build location), perform the alternative Step 3 below:
When programming a garage door opener or gate operator, it is advised to unplug the device or move the vehicle out of range during the "cycling" process to prevent possible overheating.
- 3. Continually press and hold the HomeLink® transceiver button while also pressing and releasing ("cycle") the hand-held transmitter every two seconds until the frequency signal has been successfully identified. The indicator light will flash slowly and then rapidly indicating a successfully identified frequency signal. After this step is properly performed, proceed to the above Step 4 in "Reprogramming Common Universal Transmitter Codes" to complete the programming process.
