Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) DATA RELATED (U-CODE) DTCS IN THE DTCM
- Using the recorded information, check for CAN Data related (U-Code) DTCs set in The DTCM.
Are any CAN Message related (U-Code) DTCs set in The DTCM?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No
- Go To 3
- Using the recorded information, check for CAN Data related (U-Code) DTCs set in The DTCM.
- CHECK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE FOR DTCS
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the ABS Module.
Are any ABS DTCs set?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 4
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the ABS Module.
- CHECK THE POWER CONTROL MODULE (PCM) FOR DTCS
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Are any PCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (3.6L) , DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (5.7L) , DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (6.2L) or DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (6.4L) .
No
- Go To 5
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- CHECK THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) FOR DTCS
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the TCM.
Are any TCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (8HP50/850RE) , DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (8HP70) or DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (8HP95) .
No
- Go To 6
- Using the recorded information, check for DTCs in the TCM.
- PERFORM THE KISS POINT RELEARN PROCEDURE
- Start the engine.
- Place the Transmission in neutral and apply the brakes firmly.
- Select AUTO on the Transfer Case Selector Switch.
- With the scan tool, run the DTCM non-volatile reset command.
- Place the Transmission in park.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Wait 10 seconds, turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Select 4WD LO on the Transfer Case Selector Switch, then select AUTO.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Repair or replace the Transfer Case for a mechanical condition that is interfering with the clutch operation. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Performing the Kiss Point Relearn procedure repaired the issue.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTCM VERIFICATION TEST .
