Theory Of Operation
The Park Assist Module 2 (PAM2) allows for up to four additional sensors on the vehicle. Consisting of two front and two rear sensors. The PAM2 works in conjunction with the Park Assist Module (PAM) communicating over the CAN Bus.
The PAM2 performs several internal module memory and functionality checks on initial power up. After the initial checks, the PAM2 continuously monitors the sensors and circuitry usually when the transmission is in a valid forward or reverse gear.
The Park Assist Sensors are ultrasonic transceivers that transmit and receive ultrasonic waves. The sensors transmit signals to the PAM2 which allows it to detect if obstacles are in the path of the vehicle. Each sensor has a dedicated signal circuit. A shared sensor supply circuit and a shared return circuit from the PAM2. The PAM2 monitors the electrical integrity of the sensors and circuits and if a fault is detected a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set.
The sensors are numbered in a clockwise manner starting at the front left sensor 13, located in the lower body panel behind the left wheel and goes across to the front right sensor 14 in the lower body panel behind the right wheel. Then back to the rear right sensor 15 located in the right lower body panel in front of the rear tire to the rear left sensor 16 in the left lower body panel in front of the rear tire.
