Theory Of Operation

The Electric Power Steering (EPS) Module communicates over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus which includes the broadcasting of the outputs from the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS), Steering Wheel Position sensor and Torque Sensor components that are all internal to the Steering Gear. The EPS Module uses these inputs and vehicle speed to provide variable assist steering. The components of the EPS system can not be serviced separately and must be replaced as a complete steering gear unit. Manual steering control of the vehicle can be maintained if power steering assist is lost.
