DVOM/MOPAR® Scope Testing

NOTE:

Resistance of a CAN Bus network must be measured with the 12-volt Main Battery, and Auxiliary Battery (if equipped), disconnected.

Refer to the following steps to measure and record the voltage and resistance on the CAN Bus circuits:

DVOM TESTING:

  1. With the ignition ON, measure and record the VOLTAGE  on the CAN Bus (+) circuit, making sure the ground lead is connected to chassis ground.
  2. With the ignition ON, measure and record the VOLTAGE  on the CAN Bus (-) circuit, making sure the ground lead is connected to chassis ground.
  3. Disconnect the Main Battery, and Auxiliary Battery (if equipped). Measure and record the RESISTANCE  on the CAN Bus (+) and (-) circuits.
  4. Compare the recorded CAN Bus measurements with the above CAN BUS VOLTAGES table and the CAN BUS TERMINATION RESISTOR RESISTANCE table.

Referring to the appropriate CAN Bus circuit failures below can help determine which direction the fault exists on the CAN Bus:

NOTE: Resistance of a CAN Bus network must be measured with the 12-volt Main Battery, and Auxiliary Battery (if equipped), disconnected.

MOPAR® SCOPE TESTING:

NOTE:

The Mopar® Scope is equipped with preset Guided Tests for the testing of CAN Communications.
