Diagnostic Test
- TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION OR POOR CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, generate and record the Vehicle Scan Report.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Start the engine.
- With the scan tool, read Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go to 2
No
- The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all the related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and the correct pin tension. If no problem is found, the test is complete. Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- CHECK THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) MODULE PART NUMBER
- Check if the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module is correct.
Is the part number correct?
Yes
- Go to 3
No
- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module. Perform the ORC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check if the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module is correct.
- PERFORM PROXY ALIGNMENT
- Turn the ignition on.
- Perform the PROXY ALIGNMENT. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off and wait 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go to 4
No
- Test complete.
- CHECK OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) MODULE HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connectors (if equipped).
- Disconnect all related systems harness connectors.
- Check the harness and components connectors and the male female terminals for the following conditions
- Proper connector installation.
- Apparently damaged connectors lock.
- Corrosion.
- Water contact signs.
- If the weatherproof protection is damaged (If equipped).
- Bent terminals. Overheating due to poor connection (terminal should be colorless due to overheat).
- Terminals that have been damaged due to being pushed. Perform a terminal drag test on each terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
- Repair any damage found on step 4.
- Reconnect all Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module harness connectors. Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all the in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related harness connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully seated.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module. Perform the ORC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- TEST COMPLETE.
