The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system consists of:
- Steering column
- Electric Power Steering Gear
- EPS module (part of steering gear)
- Inner and Outer tie rod ends
The steering gear is mounted on the front suspension cradle. The only serviceable parts of the steering gear are the inner tie rods, outer tie rods, and the inner tie rod bellows.
A Steering Angle Sensor and Torque Steer Sensor are internal to the Electric Steering Gear and cannot be service separately.
NOTE:
The EPS system is a dry gear system. The EPS system does not contain any hydraulic components such as:
- A belt-driven hydraulic pump
- Any high-pressure hydraulic hoses
- Power steering fluid
The EPS system will not experience a hydraulic leak. If fluid is detected at the front of the vehicle, on or near the steering gear, investigate other systems.
NOTE:
If a NEW steering gear is installed, programming is required. Refer to ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) MODULE, DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX
