Radio Frequency Hub Module Initialization - Export With Column Lock Module
On vehicles equipped with the optional export premium Vehicle Theft System, when either the Radio Frequency Hub RF-Hub) or the shaft lock module (also known as Elektrische Lenksαulen Verriegelung/ELV or Electric Steering Column Lock/ESCL) is replaced with a new unit, the existing RF-Hub or ELV/ESCL MUST also be replaced with a new unit. In other words, any time either the RF-Hub or the ELV/ESCL is replaced with a new unit, BOTH the RF-Hub and the ELV/ESCL MUST be replaced with new units, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Following replacement of BOTH the RF-Hub and the column lock module/ELV/ESCL, the two modules MUST be initialized using diagnostic scan tool routines in the EXACT SEQUENCE that follows. Failure to follow this sequence may result in BOTH the new RF-Hub and the new ELV/ESCL being rendered unusable, requiring BOTH units to be replaced a second time.
- After both the RF Hub and the ELV/ESCL have been replaced with new units, connect the diagnostic scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Turn the ignition ON.
- Navigate to the RF Hub in the ECU View of the diagnostic scan tool.
- Turn the ignition OFF.
- Put all the FOBIKs used in this vehicle on the front seat away from the console.
- With the scan tool select: Program Ignition FOBIKs
in the Miscellaneous Functions
menu and follow the instructions on the screen.NOTE:
- An additional key fob cannot be programmed unless one pre-existing fob is sensed by the KIN. Similarly, the RF-Hub cannot be flashed unless one pre-existing fob is present.
- Within 60 seconds of starting the flash or the starting key fob routine, the original authenticated key fob must be placed within 4 cm (1.5 inches) of the KIN button.
- After all of the FOBIKs have been programmed, run the RF Hub Replace routine.
- Turn the ignition ON.
- Run the ELV Replaced routine, also found under the Miscellaneous Functions menu item of the RF Hub in the ECU View of the diagnostic scan tool.
- Turn the ignition to the OFF position, wait 30 seconds, then cycle the ignition back to the ON/RUN position.
- Verify that the ELV locks the steering column when the ignition is turned OFF and unlocks the steering column when the ignition is turned ON.
