Active Restraints
The active restraints for this vehicle include:
- Child Restraint Anchors
- All vehicles are equipped with three, fixed-position, child seat upper tether anchors for the second row seat and two for the optional third row split bench seat. Two anchors are integral to the back of the left (60%) second row seat back panel, one is integral to the right (40%) second row seat back panel and one is integral to each of the two third row seat back panels. Two lower anchors are also provided for each second row outboard seating position. The lower anchors are integral to the second row seat frame and are accessed from the front of the second row seats, where the seat back meets the seat cushion.
The seat belt retractors may include an inertia-type, emergency locking mechanism as standard equipment. Seat belt retractors with a locking mechanism are capable of mechanically changing from an Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) to an Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR). The primary function of this feature is to securely accommodate a child seat in any seating position of the vehicle without the need for a self-cinching seat belt tip half latch plate unit or another supplemental device that would be required to prevent the seat belt webbing from unwinding freely from the retractor spool of an inertia-type emergency locking retractor mechanism.
The emergency and automatic locking mechanisms are integral to the seat belt and retractor unit and are concealed beneath a molded plastic cover located on one side of the retractor spool. These locking mechanisms cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, the entire seat belt and retractor unit must be replaced. For more information on the seat belts in this vehicle, refer to the appropriate safety service information.
- Front Seat Belts - Both front seating positions are equipped with three-point seat belt systems employing lower B-pillar mounted retractors, height-adjustable upper B-pillar mounted turning loops, a traveling lower seat belt anchor secured to the outboard side of the seat frame, and a traveling end-release seat belt buckle secured to the inboard side of the seat frame. The driver side front seat belt buckle includes an integral Hall-effect seat belt switch that detects whether the driver side front seat belt has been fastened. In domestic market vehicles, a second seat belt switch in the passenger side front seat belt buckle detects whether the passenger side front seat belt has been fastened.
- Second Row Seat Belts - All second row seating positions are equipped with three-point seat belt systems. The outboard seating position belts employ C-pillar mounted retractors, fixed position upper C-pillar mounted turning loops and fixed lower seat belt anchors secured to the rear floor panel. In vehicles equipped with the standard 60/40 bench seating, the second row center seating position retractor that is secured within the second row left (60%) seat back. The second row center seating position belt lower anchor is secured to the seat cushion frame. All second row seat belts have fixed end-release seat belt buckles. The 60/40 bench seating buckles are secured to the second row seat inboard hinge bracket (right outboard and center) or seat cushion frame (left outboard). The optional second row bucket seats have buckles that are each secured to the inboard side of their respective right or left seat cushion frame.
- Third Row Seat Belts - In vehicles equipped with the optional third row bench seat, both third row seating positions are equipped with three-point seat belt systems. These belts employ upper D-pillar mounted retractors, fixed position upper D-pillar mounted turning loops, self-cinching latch plates for compatibility with child seats, fixed lower seat belt anchor buckles secured to the floor panel, and fixed position end-release buckles secured to the center seat mounting bracket on the floor panel.
