Refilling Cooling System

NOTE: The bleed screws are located in the hose assemblies. One at the upper radiator hose and one at the heater core hose. On automatic transmission models there is an additional bleed screw at the remote automatic transmission fluid cooler.
WARNING: DO NOT open bleed screws when engine is running. Personal injury due to hot coolant may result.
  1. Verify that the drain plugs on the radiator and the engine block are tight.
  2. Open the bleed screws. See Fig 1 .
  3. Fill cooling system via expansion tank.
  4. Close the bleed screws as soon as the coolant flows from them in a continuous stream. See Fig 1 .
  5. Run engine @1500 RPM.
  6. Fill expansion tank to the maximum level as indicted on the bottle.
  7. Close the cap on the coolant bottle.
  8. Allow the engine to run for 10 minutes @1500 RPM until the coolant fan(s) turn on.
  9. Check coolant level in expansion tank.
