Cruise Control: Description and Operation

The Dodge Monaco and Eagle Premier cruise control system operates at any speed above 30 mph. The system may be disengaged by pushing the Off button, depressing the brake pedal, depressing the clutch, or turning the ignition off. If vehicle speed changes by more than 5 mph per second, the cruise control module will automatically disengage from cruise mode.
Road speed is maintained by a servo which controls throttle position according to module output. Vacuum to the servo is regulated by solenoid controlled manifold vacuum valves which balance the amount of vacuum charge and vent.
The major components of the Dodge Monaco and Eagle Premier cruise control system are; a cruise control module located behind the instrument panel, a servo which is mounted in the engine compartment and a speed sensor located in the transmission.
