Test 10A - Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB-II, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). TCM is located on left side of engine compartment at front.
  2. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace TCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located under air box in engine compartment.
  3. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB), if equipped. CAB is located on left fenderwell of engine compartment, behind anti-lock brake pump motor.
  4. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace CAB. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Overhead Traveler Information System (OTIS) module, if equipped. OTIS is located at center of roof, above visors.
  5. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace OTIS. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Auto Temperature Control (ATC) head, if equipped.
  6. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace ATC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC).
  7. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace MIC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind right kick panel.
  8. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off.
    CAUTION: Ensure ignition is off for 5 minutes before proceeding.
  9. Disconnect Passenger Air Bag System Diagnostic Module (PASDM). PASDM is located under center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If DRB-II does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PASDM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  10. If DRB-II displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off and remove DRB-II. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between data link connector CCD bus positive circuit (Violet/Brown wire) and CCD bus negative circuit (White/Black wire).
  11. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Violet/Brown and White/Black wires. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace DRB-II cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
