Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the underbody protection Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Drain the transmission fluid Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID DRAIN AND FILL  .

  5. Disconnect the transmission Input Shaft Speed (ISS) (1a) and the valve body (1b) wiring harness connectors.

  6. Disconnect the transmission Output Speed Sensor (OSS) (1a) and Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) (1b) wire harness connectors.

  7. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (3) and the transmission fluid cooler tube band clamps (2).
  8. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube fittings (1) and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes (4).

  9. Remove the transmission wiring harness bracket bolts (1a) and the transmission wiring harness bracket (1b).
  10. Remove the transmission crossmember Refer to , CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Remove the drive shaft Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Remove the ground wire nut (1a) and position the ground wire aside (1b).

  13. Turn the engine crankshaft to access and remove the six torque converter bolts (1).

  14. Support and secure the transmission with a suitable jack (1b).

  15. Remove the transmission to bolts (1).
  16. Remove the transmission to engine bolts (2) and the four transmission to engine stud bolts.
  17. Remove the transmission.

INSTALLATION 

  1. Install the transmission, in the vehicle.

  2. Install the transmission to engine bolts (2), the four transmission to engine stud bolts and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the transmission to starter bolt (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Turn the engine crankshaft to access and install the six torque converter bolts (1b) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  5. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket (1b).
  6. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  7. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes and the transmission fluid cooler tube band clamps (2).
  8. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes (4) and install the transmission fluid cooler tube bolts (1).
  9. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes in place, install the fluid cooler tube bracket bolt (3) and tighten to the proper specification. and install the transmission fluid cooler tube band clamps (2). Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  10. Connect the transmission Output Speed Sensor (OSS) (1a) and Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) (1b) wire harness connectors.

  11. Connect the transmission Input Shaft Speed (ISS) (1a) and the valve body (1b) wiring harness connectors.
  12. Install the drive shaft Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Fill the transmission Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  15. Install the underbody protection Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , BELLY PAN, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  16. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
