Standard Column: Disassembly
- Remove steering wheel and column. Remove turn signal lever. On 3-speed and automatic transmissions, drive out shift lever pivot pin and remove lever.
- Remove turn signal and hazard switch retaining screws and partially withdraw switch from upper flange. Remove snap ring from upper steering shaft. Remove lower bearing retainer.
- Using a light hammer, gently drive the steering shaft out the bottom of the steering column. Retain the ignition switch in the "LOCK" position and remove ignition switch and actuation rod.
- On automatic transmissions, drill out shift tube retaining rivet from bottom of shift socket. On manual and automatic transmissions, withdraw shift tube assembly from bottom of column.
- Remove the shift indicator and lens assembly from Van only. Loosen upper flange retaining nuts. Pinch nuts toward each other and withdraw upper flange from outer tube.
- Remove shift socket on 3-speed manual and automatic transmissions from outer tube. Remove flange extension on 4-speed transmissions from outer tube.
- On all models, remove upper bearing and insulator cover from upper flange by gently tapping opposite side of flange with a light hammer.
