Test J - Neutral Switch-A/C Input Test
- For 1.6L with man. trans., go to step 4).
- For 1.6L Turbo SVO & 2.3L Turbo with man. trans., go to step 6).
- For 2.3L Turbo Octane Switch, go to Test U, step 15).
- For all others, go to step 1).
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Ensure heater and A/C off. Transaxle/transmission in Neutral or "P". Disconnect 60-pin connector at ECA and inspect. Install breakout box and reconnect ECA. Turn ignition on and place DVOM on 20 volt scale. Measure voltage between box pin 30 and chassis ground. If less than .5 volts, proceed to step 3). If not, proceed to next step.
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. With breakout box installed and ECA connected. Locate the neutral drive switch on transaxle. Disconnect harness at switch. With DVOM on 200 ohm scale, measure resistance across switch contacts. If less than 5 ohms, correct open circuit and repeat Quick Test. If 5 ohms or more, replace defective switch and repeat Quick Test.
- Reconnect neutral drive switch, breakout box and ECA still connected. With DVOM on 20 volt scale, turn A/C switch off. Turn ignition switch on and measure voltage from box pin 10 to chassis ground. If 1 volt or more, repair short to power in circuit and repeat Quick Test. If less than 1 volt, replace ECA and repeat Quick Test.
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Ensure A/C is off (if equipped) and transaxle is in Neutral and clutch is released. Disconnect 60-pin connector at ECA and inspect. Install breakout box and reconnect ECA. With DVOM on 200 ohm scale, measure resistance from box pin 30 to box pin 46. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 3). If 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. With breakout box and ECA connected, place DVOM on 200 ohm scale. Locate neutral switch (on transaxle) and clutch switch (under dash). Disconnect wiring harness from each switch and measure voltage across terminals of each switch. If both less than 5 ohms, correct open circuit and repeat Quick Test. If either or both 5 ohms or more, replace defective switch and repeat Quick Test.
- Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Make sure A/C is off (if equipped). Disconnect 60-pin connector at ECA and inspect. Install breakout box and reconnect ECA. With DVOM on 200 ohm scale, measure resistance from box pin 30 to box pin 46. If less than 5 ohms, replace ECA and repeat Quick Test. If 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit and repeat Quick Test.
