Glow Plug Test D - Test Lamp Cycles Continuously

NOTE: There has been a factory update to Glow Plug Testing, See TSB Number 88-11-19 in the TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN Section
  1. Remove engine harness connector at control switch. Start engine. Check for voltage between control switch connector pin 1 and ground. If voltage is 11 volts or more, turn engine off, replace control switch and repeat trouble shooting procedure. If voltage is less than 11 volts, proceed to step 2.
  2. With ignition off, disconnect harness connector from after-glow relay. Check for ground at connector terminal 1. If not grounded, repair or replace ground wiring as necessary and repeat trouble shooting procedure. If grounded, proceed to step 3.
  3. Turn ignition on. Check for voltage between after-glow relay connector terminal 2 and ground. If voltage is less than 11 volts, repair or replace wiring as necessary and repeat trouble shooting procedure. If voltage is 11 volts or more, proceed to step 4.
  4. Start engine. Check for voltage between relay connector terminal 3 and ground. Voltage should be 6.5-7.5 volts. If so, proceed to step 5. If not, turn engine off, repair or replace wiring as necessary and repeat trouble shooting procedure.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove harness connector at control switch. Check resistance between relay connector terminal 4 and control switch connector pin 1. If resistance is less than 1 ohm, replace after-glow relay and repeat trouble shooting procedure. If resistance is 1 ohm or more, proceed to step 6.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect chassis harness from engine harness. Check resistance between relay connector terminal 4 and chassis connector pin 1 or 5. If resistance is less than 1 ohm, replace engine harness and repeat trouble shooting procedure. If resistance is 1 ohm or more, repair chassis harness and repeat trouble shooting procedure.
