Test 2 - Code 58
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect processor. Adjust VOM to 200 ohm scale. Measure resistance of the Idle Tracking Switch (ITS) between processor connector Pin 7 and processor connector Pin 24. Move throttle lever from the DC motor shaft to wide open position. Note resistance reading. Resistance reading should be less than 5 ohms. Release the throttle lever to contact the DC motor shaft. If throttle does not contact shaft, depress shaft. Resistance reading should exceed 5 ohms. If readings are correct, proceed to step 3). Proceed to step 2) if readings are incorrect.
- ITS Check
Turn ignition off. Adjust VOM to 200 ohm scale. Disconnect DC motor connector. Measure resistance of ITS at DC motor connector. Lift and release throttle lever. Note reading with throttle lever in both positions. Reading should be less than 5 ohms with the throttle lever lifted. Resistance should exceed 5 ohms with throttle contacting DC motor shaft. If throttle lever does not contact DC motor shaft, depress DC motor shaft. If readings are correct, repair open circuit in harness from DC motor connector to processor connector. Perform test after repairing open circuit. If readings are incorrect, replace DC motor and repeat test. - DC Motor Movement
Reconnect processor. Start engine and perform test. Check DC motor shaft movement during test. If motor shaft moves, replace processor. Perform test after replacement. If motor shaft does not move, proceed to next step. - Continuity Check
Disconnect processor. Adjust VOM to 200 ohm scale. Connect VOM to Pin 22 and Pin 11 on harness from motor connector to processor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less for each, proceed to next step. If resistance exceeds 5 ohms, repair harness and repeat test. - Motor Movement
Turn ignition off. Disconnect DC motor connector. Connect jumper lead from positive battery terminal to positive DC motor connector. Connect negative battery terminal to negative DC motor connector.CAUTION: DO NOT apply battery voltage to the ITS terminals. Isolate the ITS terminals with electrical tape during this test procedure. - Apply voltage across 2 upper pins. Note motor shaft movement. Reverse polarity across 2 upper pins. Note motor shaft for reverse movement. Replace processor if motor shaft operates in both directions. Replace DC motor if shaft does not operate in both directions. Perform test once repairs are made.
