Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Set shift lever in NEUTRAL position.
3. Remove linkage from transmission manual shift lever.
4. Disconnect neutral safety switch wiring connector.
5. Remove neutral safety switch attaching bolts, then the switch.
6. Install replacement switch on manual shaft.
7. Install neutral safety switch attaching bolts. Do not tighten at this time.
8. Insert a No. 43 (.089 inch) drill bit through hole provided in switch.
9. Torque attaching bolts to 7---9 inch lbs., then remove drill bit.
10. Connect neutral safety switch wiring connector, then battery negative terminal.
11. Ensure starter operates in NEUTRAL and PARK positions only.
