Test 8, Isolate EDIS Module/Pip Fault

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 1991 Ford Ranger, 1991 Ford RV Cutaway, 1991 Ford Pickup, 1991 Ford F-Super Duty, and 1991 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

With key off, connect EDIS diagnostic cable positive lead to battery positive. Set DVOM to 20-volt AC scale. Hold EDIS diagnostic cable PIP push button down. Crank engine, and measure voltage breakout box pins No. J43 (PIP E) and J7 (BAT -).

If settled AC voltage is greater than one volt, go to next test. If settled AC voltage is less than one volt, there is no PIP output from EDIS module. Replace EDIS module, and remove all test equipment. Reconnect all components, and check for fault codes.
