Alarm Triggering Verification: Notes
- On all models, with driver's window down, arm system. Unlock and open driver's door from inside vehicle. If alarm triggers and cycles, go to step 2). On Continental and Mark VII, if alarm does not trigger, go to step 7). On Cougar, Town Car and Thunderbird, if alarm does not trigger, replace control module. On all models, if alarm triggers and does not cycle but is on steady, replace control module and retest system.
- On all models, horns should sound on and off. If horns sound, go to step 3). On Continental and Mark VII, if horns are silent, check alarm relay contact "B", circuit No. 1 (Dark Blue) wire, and horns. On Mark VII also check horn relay. See Figure . On Cougar and Thunderbird, if horns are silent, go to step 4) of LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIGGER. On Town Car, if horns are silent, check horn relay, horns or circuit No. 1 (Dark Blue) wire.
- On all models, tail and parking lights should flash on and off. If lights flash on and off, go to step 4). On Continental and Mark VII, if lights stay off, check alarm relay contact "C" and circuit No. 14 (Brown) wire. On Cougar, Town Car and Thunderbird, if lights stay off, check circuit No. 14 (Brown) wire and retest system.
- On all models, low beam headlights should flash on and off. If low beam headlights flash on and off, go to step 5). On Continental and Mark VII, if low beam headlights stay off, check alarm relay contact "E" and circuit No. 13 (Red/Black) wire and retest system. On Cougar, Town Car and Thunderbird, if low beam headlights stay off, check circuit No. 13 (Red/Black) wire.
- On all models, attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle will not start, alarm triggering sequence is okay. On all models except Cougar and Thunderbird, if vehicle starts, go to step 6). On Cougar and Thunderbird, if vehicle starts, replace control module and retest system.
- On Continental and Mark VII, check voltage at terminal "E", circuit No. 342 (Light Green/Purple) wire of control module. If reading is less than 2 volts, replace starter interrupt relay or check for open in circuits No. 33 (White/Pink) wire or No. 342 (Light Green/Purple) wire. If reading is greater than 2 volts, replace control module and retest system. On Town Car, disconnect alarm module from wiring harness and attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts, go to step 7). If vehicle will not start, replace control module and retest.
- On Continental and Mark VII, check voltage at terminal "F" of control module. If voltage switches between battery voltage and less than 2 volts, replace alarm relay. If reading is steady battery voltage, replace control module. If reading is below 2 volts, check for open in circuit No. 23 (Tan/Light Green) wire.
- On Town Car, check for 1000 ohms or more between pins No. 12 and 13 of control module harness connector. If reading is more than 1000 ohms, replace control module and retest. If reading is less than 50 ohms, check circuits No. 301 (Red) wire and No. 33 (White/Pink) wire.
