Rectifier Assembly Testing

  1. Remove and disassemble alternator. Set ohmmeter in x1 range. Connect one ohmmeter probe to positive diode lead and other probe to heat sink at positive side. Reverse ohmmeter probes. There should be continuity only in the direction from diode lead to heat sink and an infinite reading with probes reversed. If meter readings are not as specified, replace positive rectifier assembly.
  2. Connect one ohmmeter probe to negative diode lead and other probe to heat sink at negative side. Reverse ohmmeter probes. There should be continuity only in the direction from heat sink to diode lead and an infinite reading with probes reversed. If meter readings are not as specified, replace negative rectifier assembly.
  3. Check diode trio. There should be continuity in only one direction. Replace if readings are not as specified.
