Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer and timing light.

Test Connector:





4. Connect a jumper wire between the black one pin STI (test) connector and ground.
5. Check the idle speed and adjust to specifications (750 +/- 25 RPM).

Timing Marker:





6. Check to make sure the yellow timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing belt cover line up.
NOTE: Specification is 6° +/- 1° BTDC with the vacuum hoses disconnected and plugged.

Distributor Rotation:





7. If the marks do not line up, loosen the distributor lock bolt and turn the distributor housing to make the adjustment.
8. Reconnect the vacuum hoses and disconnect the jumper wire to the STI connector.
9. Tighten the distributor lock bolt to specification 14-19 lbs. ft. (19-25 N-m).
