ON Circuit

  1. Perform tests at amplifier 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on and connect voltmeter between appropriate amplifier connector terminal and ground. See AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table.
    AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION

    Application Wire Color
    1991 Continental White/Purple
    1991-92 Cougar & Thunderbird White/Purple
    1991-92 Escort & Tracer Black/Yellow
    1991-92 Mustang White/Purple
    1991-92 Sable & Taurus White/Purple
    1991-92 Tempo & Topaz White/Purple
    1991-92 Town Car White/Purple
    All Others (1) Pink/Orange
    (1) Circuit No. 296
  2. Battery voltage should be present. If battery voltage is not present, check for blown fuse. On Escort and Tracer, connect voltmeter between circuit No. 356 (Red/Yellow wire) and ground. On all other models, connect voltmeter between circuit No. 151 (Light Blue/Black wire) and ground. On all models, battery voltage should be present when cruise control ON button is pressed. If battery voltage is not present, perform CONTROL SWITCHES  test under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  3. Release ON button. Voltmeter should read 7.8 volts, indicating ON circuit is engaged. Voltage should remain at 7.8 volts until another cruise control circuit is activated. If voltage is not as specified, check system ground, wiring, fuse and circuit breaker. Install a known good amplifier and recheck (if necessary).
