Engine Control Module: Description and Operation

Electronic Control Assembly (ECA):

PURPOSE
The Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) is the brain of the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system with the capability of failure detection and self-diagnosis. The ECA is specifically calibrated for each vehicle application, providing the best possible combination of low emissions, fuel economy, and driveability. On 2.2L non-turbo applications, the ECA also contains the microprocessor that controls the 4-speed Electronic Automatic Transaxle (4EAT).

OPERATION
Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the ECA generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids, and other actuators.
