Regulator Power Source Test: Probe

  1. Disconnect 2 terminal connector on back of alternator. Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine not running). Connect positive voltmeter lead to "S" terminal on alternator wiring plug. See Figure. Connect negative voltmeter lead to alternator rear housing.
  2. If voltage is same as battery voltage, see ROTOR OPEN OR SHORT CIRCUIT TEST  under BENCH TESTING. If voltage is less than battery voltage, problem is indicated between harness connector terminal "S" and battery.
